While in Durango, Colorado, for a family reunion with Pat's Uncle Ned and Aunt Jean Coate, cousin Nadean and her husband Jim Mills, and sister Betsy and her husband John Hooper, the braver (or is it most foolish) among us went river rafting on the Animas River which runs through Durango. It was rated as a gentle ride with only small rapids, but our raft plowed into a hole and we lost Nadean and John overboard! Nadean was quickly hauled back aboard, but John drifted out of reach and continued floating on down the river alone in his life jacket. Our guide eventually retrieved John and was horrified to hear that he had recently undergone open heart surgery
